16 Children Treated After Pepper Spray Goes Off At Harlem Public School

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Sixteen children were treated after an apparent pepper spray incident at Public School 92 in Harlem, EMS officials said.

Six children were taken to a hospital for treatment, EMS told CBS2. Ten kids were treated at the scene.

The incident took place at around 2:40 p.m. at West 134th Street near Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard.

Investigators say the pepper spray fell out of a girl's bag and went off, exposing 16 students to the chemical, which can cause eye irritation, pain and temporary blindness.

Pepper spray is banned from NYC public schools.
