Six Flags Great Adventure Previews New El Diablo Roller Coaster

JACKSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New Jersey's Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park is previewing its newest roller coaster.

The Jersey Devil inspired the theme for El Diablo, which in Spanish means the devil.

"El Diablo delivers a scorching thrill for a variety of age groups," said park President John Fitzgerald. "Our guests told us they wanted a ride that would excite tweens and prepare them for the extreme thrills of coasters like El Toro and Kingda Ka, and El Diablo is the perfect fit."

The red, looping coaster features riders sitting face-to-face. They are rocketed forward and backward until the coaster gains enough momentum to complete a full revolution seven stories in the air. Riders are suspended upside down until the coaster reverses direction.

Previews for season pass holders are taking place on Thursday and Friday.

"It was awesome, my kids were laughing at me because I was making all kinds of weird faces but it was a lot of fun," one woman said.

El Diablo is more of a medium-sized ride create to graduate parkgoers from junior coasters to Six Flags' big thrill rides, 1010 WINS' Rebecca Granet reported.

The park in Jackson will celebrate El Diablo's grand opening on Saturday.
