Reports: Giants' Will Beatty Tears Pectoral Muscle, Will Miss 5-6 Months

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Giants' offensive line is already in trouble.

According to multiple reports, left tackle Will Beatty suffered a torn pectoral injury while lifting weights on Tuesday. He will undergo surgery and is expected to miss five-to-six months of action.

Beatty, 30, has played in all 16 games for the Giants each of the past three seasons, and started every game in 2013 and 2014. The 6-foot-6, 320-pound tackle was drafted by New York in the second round in 2009.

Justin Pugh is a candidate to move from the right side to the left side in Beatty's absence.

General manager Jerry Reese addressed the offensive line in the draft last month, selecting 6-foot-6, 329-pound Ereck Flowers with the ninth pick overall out of the University of Miami. He also signed free-agent offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse and re-signed guard John Jerry.

Flowers is expected to be the Giants' left tackle of the future.

The initial plan, however, was for Flowers to start at right tackle and Pugh to start at guard. With Beatty down, however, head coach Tom Coughlin and offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo have some decisions to make.
