Nassau Police To Crack Down On Drunken Driving For Holiday Weekend

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Nassau County police will be on high alert this coming Memorial Day weekend, looking for drunken drivers.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, what are called the 100 deadliest days of summer begin this weekend. Nassau authorities said they are in full force looking for those who have had one too many, but are still driving.

Marge Lee, of the group Dedicated, said people should plan ahead of time how they are going to get home if they are going to a Memorial Day party.

"A lot of times when I have a party, there'll be one or two people that are the designated drivers, and we'll collect the keys," she said. "If there's going to be heavy-duty drinking going on, people automatically give us the keys, and they'll say, 'Give me a ride home later.' Part of the planning should be how you are going to get home safely, or get the people you love home safely."
