Dillon Gee Reiterates Anti-Gun Control Stance

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Mets pitcher Dillon Gee says he's against "senseless gun violence," not gun control.

Gee sent out a series of tweets to clear up any confusion as to why he was pictured taking part in the "Wear Orange" campaign on Tuesday with his teammates, who were asked to pose in T-shirts for National Gun Violence Awareness Day. An avid hunter, Gee later said there was a miscommunication when the image was characterized as part of a gun-control push.

"I felt the need to say that it wasn't my opinion," the 29-year-old Texan told Newsday.

Gee told the newspaper that the hot-button issue of gun control wasn't addressed in the letter that came with his T-shirt. He said the material only mentioned taking a stand against gun violence, which he believed to be a "totally separate" topic.

"I own plenty of guns," Gee said. "I've never hurt anybody. That's why I don't think the whole thing correlates together. I think criminals will always do bad things. That's kind of my opinion."
