Owner, Trainer Still Aglow Following American Pharoah's Triple Crown Win

ELMONT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- American Pharoah is off to his stables at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky just one day after making history at the Belmont Stakes.

As CBS2's Ilana Gold reported, owner Ahmad Zayat is still in awe over American Pharoah's Triple Crown title -- the first in 37 years.

"I stayed up all night thinking 'oh my God, what greatness have we witnessed,'" Zayat said.

American Pharoah joins the ranks of 11 other horses.

This morning, his new banner was unveiled at Belmont Park, right next to the other Triple Crown winners.

"I will never forget the sound of the crowd when they turned for home. People just erupted," said trainer Bob Baffert.

Baffert's mind is still back on the track.

"When the horse is ready, we're not scared of running him to lose or not to lose. It's all about the fans and this belongs to history," he said.

Breeding rights were sold to a Kentucky farm for an undisclosed amount. The Zayat family, who lives in Teaneck, New Jersey, will still own American Pharoah until he retires, which isn't expected until sometime next year.

For now, it's all about enjoying the victory.

"It was ridiculously insane what he did yesterday," Baffert said.

Churchill Downs will have a celebration for American Pharoah on June 13.
