Yankees' Brendan Ryan Activated From 60-Day DL; Ramon Flores Sent Down

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Infielder Brendan Ryan has been activated from the 60-day disabled list and played in his first game this season for the New York Yankees, starting at shortstop and batting ninth against the Washington Nationals.

Injured pitcher Ivan Nova made a stop in the Bronx on Wednesday to throw a bullpen before heading to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He will make a rehabilitation start there Saturday in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

Nova had elbow surgery about 13 months ago. He feels he is close to a return to New York. Manager Joe Girardi said Nova will be evaluated after his start.

Ryan had missed the entire season with calf and hamstring injuries. He hit .167 (19 for 114) last year for the Yankees.

To make room for Ryan, the Yankees optioned rookie outfielder Ramon Flores to Triple-A, a day after he had the first three-hit game of his big league career.
