Some of the best things come from the land down under: Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, kangaroos!
But nobody saw Ruby Rose, an Australian television personality, breaking into one of this culture’s streaming phenomenons, “Orange Is the New Black.”
Not usually heralded as an actress, Rose will make her debut on the third season of the prison dramedy when she plays the love interest of main characters Piper Chapman and Alex Vause (who themselves have been in a complicated relationship with each other these past two seasons). Since previews of this season first hit the web, many have wondered who the new cast member addition is.
Well, fear not, because below is everything you need to know about the Aussie entertainer.
Full Name: Ruby Rose Langenheim
Birthdate: March 20, 1986
Height: 5’ 7” (1.70m)
Birthplace: Melbourne, Australia
Best Known For: MTV VJ, Orange Is The New Black
Little Known Facts:
-Loud, Proud and Out
Rose came out as gay when she was 12-years-old and has since voiced her support for LGBT rights while also saying she is “gender fluid.” To add to that, Rose is also engaged to Phoebe Dahl, the granddaughter of famous children’s author Roald Dahl.
If you were to look at Rose’s resume, it may look like it’s all over the place, but that’s not a bad thing. Rose is not only a television personality in Australia but has also modeled, recorded songs, acted in television and film and become a big philanthropist all before age 30.
-Historic Australian Relative
Rose is the great-granddaughter of Alec Campbell, the last surviving Australian Battle of Gallipoli soldier, making her directly related to some serious Australian history.
-Landing The Gig
Rose couldn’t have gotten her start as an MTV VJ without engaging in some pretty wild stunts first. The Aussie went head-to-head against one of MTV’s craziest personalities Bam Margera and also randomly kissed dozens of strangers on the streets of Sydney.
