Is Shaq A 9/11 Truther? Controversial Content Posted On Big Man's Website

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Shaquille O'Neal has never been afraid to speak his mind.

But more often than not, his opinions lead to laughs.

Not this time.

Some very controversial content was recently posted on the future Basketball Hall of Famer and TNT NBA analyst's website and Facebook page. The subject matter was the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

There's no concrete evidence that Shaq wrote or posted the content, but some media outlets are suggesting that the legendary big man is a 9/11 "truther."

O'Neal has denied that he's a truther and that he posted the content.

"This post was insulting and offensive, and I apologize to everyone who came across it," he said in a statement on Friday. "Once I learned that it was on my Facebook page and blog, I ordered it removed and fired the firm that posted it. I am not and never have been a '9/11 truther.'

"My father served our country and I am immensely proud of the sacrifices people make daily to keep us safe. The events of 9/11 were a horrible tragedy for our nation and it's a disgrace that anyone would think otherwise."

The Facebook post and the story posted on the website have both been taken down.
