NYPD Detectives Killed In Line Of Duty Honored At Separate Events

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It was an emotional day Saturday in Brooklyn as an NYPD detective killed in the line of duty was honored at a street re-naming ceremony, CBS2's Cindy Hsu reports.

Ridgewood Avenue between Shepard Avenue and Highland Place in Brooklyn is now Detective Rafael Ramos Way.

Cousin Tisha Torres-Gonzalez spoke at the ceremony.

"The idea that in this neighborhood, people will walk back and forth and look at that sign and remember, they will remember Detective Rafael Ramos, police officer, guardian at the gate to Brooklyn."

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton was on hand when the event was held around 11 a.m. Saturday.

Ramos and Detective Wenjian Liu were shot and killed as they sat in their patrol car back in December.

Meanwhile, in Queens Village, a garden was dedicated in honor of another fallen detective.

Detective Brian Moore was shot in the face during a traffic stop in Queens this May.

Volunteers have been working on a memorial garden at the Saint Gregory the Great School in the 105th Precinct, where Moore was assigned.

Volunteers said the detective worked off-duty security at the church's fair every year.
