Sea Creatures Come To Shore For Annual Mermaid Parade In Coney Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A sea of glitter, classic cruisers and, of course, mermaids filled Surf Avenue in Coney Island Saturday afternoon.

The 33rd Annual Mermaid Parade kicked off the official start to the summer season.

Some 3,000 artists and performers took part this year, with about 800,000 spectators lining the streets.

Organizers will also crown a celebrity King Neptune and Queen Mermaid.

The parade stepped off at 1 p.m.
