Woman Speaks After Being Robbed, Beaten On Park Slope Street

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn woman was beaten and bloodied in an armed robbery, but still scared off the men who attacked her on the way to work.

As CBS2's Tony Aiello reported, the men suspected in the Brooklyn attack have now been connected to another violent crime. They were still on the run Wednesday night.

"The two guys pushed me against my car and put a gun to my mouth; gave me a fat lip, and then it broke my top teeth and my bottom tooth," said the 43-year-old state worker, who did not want to show her face.

It happened early Sunday morning on a Park Slope street of $2 million brownstones – just a block from Mayor Bill de Blasio's family home on 11th Street.

"I would say ruthless and cruel - downright just mean," the woman said.

The woman was parking her car to hop a subway to work, when two men jumped out of a white vehicle –one of them brandishing a silver handgun.

"(They were saying), 'Give me your money! Give me your money!'" she said.

The woman pushed the men away, and then tripped and fell on top of her purse, Aiello reported. At that point, she said the mugger repeatedly struck her in the head with his gun, leaving her covered in blood.

The victim was wearing a blue uniform under her green sweater. She is not a police officer, but on the spur of the moment, she started yelling at the muggers, "I'm a cop."

"It just happened so fast that I just wanted it to stop," she said.

The men fled, and are suspected of mugging two Canadian tourists outside the nearby Union Hotel just six minutes later.

Compared with last year, robberies in the 78th Police Precinct are up 15.9 percent in 2015, and felony assaults are up almost 8.8 percent.

"Right now I'm nervous, but you know, I would try to overcome it," the woman said.

The victim hopes to resume her routine soon, but said it will take some time to shake off the fear.
