WATCH: Video Of Great White Shark Snacking On Whale Carcass Off Long Island Goes Viral

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Summer is synonymous with sun, sand, and surf, but lately it seems like we need to add sharks to the list.

Four Long Island fishermen captured incredible video of a great white shark snacking on a whale carcass.

The fishermen were out last Sunday on a 29-foot boat when they came upon some smaller sharks munching on the dead whale 45-miles off Jones Beach.

As CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reported, that's when they spotted the big kahuna.

"Oh my god! It's a great white!" one of the men can be heard saying in a video posted to YouTube.

Using a Go Pro camera attached to a pole the fisherman captured underwater footage of the great white shark as it circled their boat and snacked on the whale.

The fishermen said the great white shark was so close they could touch it.

"Out of nowhere the thing came up. It was huge," Michael Maiale said.

Maiale estimated that the shark was about 15 feet long and weighs 1,500-lbs.

Liam Lyons set up the Go Pro.

"It's unbelievable, almost like an adrenaline rush. The fear was there, but it was worth it," Lyons said.

"It was a once in a lifetime experience," Maiale added.

But Maiale's dream come true is a nightmare for some beach lovers.

"I don't want to get bit," Nicole Marrow said.

Marrow said she won't go near the water after hearing about sightings like one last week in ocean City, Maryland, and the attacks, with North Carolina now reporting four in just two weeks. Two teenage victims had their arms amputated.

"We've heard reports. It's not going to stop us from coming to the beach," Katherine Monroy said.

The Allen family is visiting from Georgia. Dad stayed home, but has been in constant contact.

"He's been sending me all sorts of things about staying away from the beach," Colleen Allen said.

Mom remains unphased.

"Won't stay away from the water. They've been in the water all day, and they've been just fine," she added.

The video has been viewed nearly 600,000 times.
