Provided by TiqIQ

On June 28, Yankee Stadium will host the season’s second clash between New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls. After emerging victorious over the Philadelphia Union, Montreal Impact, and Toronto FC, NYCFC will enter this meeting with their first three-game MLS win streak in franchise history, which has them riding on a wave of momentum.

Though this will be just the second game ever between the two clubs, NYCFC vs. NYRB is clearly a major rivalry in the MLS. According to TiqIQ, tickets on the secondary market are averaging $100.55, with a get-in price of $32. With a robust secondary market, it is actually more beneficial for fans to acquire their seats straight from the team, which features better deals on their remaining inventory. For instance, for those wanting NYCFC versus Red Bulls tickets in the 400-level, you can find section 421, row 8 on Ticketmaster for just $30, as opposed to the $49 it costs on the secondary market for similar seats, a savings of nearly 50%. Additionally, for NYCFC tickets in section 225, row 3, you can get those seats for $137 from the team, compared to $238 from another secondary seller.

The first game between the two came at Red Bull Arena on May 10, when two goals from forward Bradley Wright-Phillips lifted the Red Bulls to victory in the inaugural matchup of this intense newfound New York soccer rivalry, otherwise known as the Hudson River Derby. The atmosphere is only going to get more heated as the MLS season gets closer to its climax, and fans of both sides will certainly want this game for bragging rights. NYCFC is expecting a large crowd and has opened up the entirety of Yankee Stadium to fans for this game for the first time since the home opener.

Heading into this game having won three in a row in MLS play, the Jason Kreis-coached NYCFC side has been in top form as they aim to move up the standings. They’re currently in a four-way tie for fifth place in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, along with the Red Bulls, with 17 points. Wright-Phillips will need to once again lead the Red Bulls’ attack as they come off a midweek match against Real Salt Lake. David Villa, meanwhile, will be tasked with similar duties; the prolific forward has tallied 6 goals and 3 assists through 16 games this season.

U.S. international midfielder Mix Diskerud has been instrumental in NYCFC’s success in the midfield and will have a difficult test on Sunday. The 25-year-old faces off with a fellow midfielder who has also been featured for the U.S. internationally, Sasha Kljestan. He’s been playing in a more advanced position, supporting the lone forward, and will battle Diskerud for dictating the flow of possession in an intriguing matchup.

In net, the Red Bulls have received solid play from Louis Robles, as the 31-year-old is in the midst of a great season, having already recorded three shutouts in the first 14 games. At the other end of the field stands Josh Saunders, who has saved 54 of the 74 shots he has faced in 15 appearances, registering three shutouts in the process as well.

There will be no shortage of action come game time as NYCFC pursue their first win over their crosstown rivals. If either team can get three points, they’ll have the bragging rights of the city, and more importantly, a big jump in the standings.
