HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A woman from Hempstead was arrested after detectives say she attempted to kill a man with a kitchen knife.

The 32-year-old victim was at Miranda River Café, 221 Fulton Avenue, when employee Elsa Marina Saravia-Martinez, 34, of Jackson Street, stabbed him in the abdomen with the knife, police say.READ MORE: Experts Predicting Above Average Snowfall, Overall Above Average Temperatures This Winter
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition.

She will be arraigned on Monday, July 6, at First District Court in Hempstead.
