NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — A ticker tape parade will be held in Lower Manhattan for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team this coming Friday, the Mayor’s office announced.
Mayor Bill de Blasio will join the team for the parade beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, according to the Mayor’s office.READ MORE: Police: 3 Teens Hurt After Stolen Car Hits Multiple Vehicles, Including Unmarked Police Car
As anticipated, the parade will be held in the Canyon of Heroes, along Broadway from the Battery to City Hall.
The parade is open to all. Fans may also go to nyc.gov/parade or call 311 on Wednesday between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to sign up for a chance to attend a special program at City Hall.
A trip to New York for a parade in the Canyon of Heroes was first suggested by Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer who wrote to the mayor, urging him to honor the women with a parade.
“All types of families — and a large immigrant community will be coming to this parade because they love soccer, so you’d have New Yorkers, suburbanites,” Brewer said. “I must admit my excitement would be young women who can see that there’s a possibility for them.”READ MORE: Pro-Palestine, Pro-Israel Protesters Clash In Manhattan Over Escalating Crisis In The Middle East
