NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Last week, the New York Daily News wrote a story about Matt Harvey playing Donald Trump’s Bronx golf course and thanking the controversial presidential candidate.

According to the newspaper, the Mets’ starter posted the following message to his Instagram page: “Off with some TEAMMATES! Thanks @realdonaldtrump @donaldjtrumpjr @trumpferrypoint for a great day on the new course.”

The post was subsequently deleted.

The Instagram photo featured Harvey posing alongside teammates Kevin Plawecki and Jon Niese and bullpen catcher Eric Langill at the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point.

On Tuesday morning, the Republican sent out a tweet criticizing the Daily News and supporting the former All-Star.

The newspaper promptly responded.

After missing all of last season following Tommy John surgery, Harvey had a very good first half, through he struggled a bit as the All-Star break approached. Untouchable in 2013, the fiery 26-year-old has looked human in 2015.

In his last start of the first half, on Saturday, the right-hander beat the Diamondbacks and hit his first career home run.
