Sketch Released Of Suspect In Manhattan Hate Crime Attack

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police are continuing to search for a man in connection with an assault being investigated as a hate crime in Manhattan.

Police said a 19-year-old woman was approached by a man outside 109 East Broadway around 10:40 p.m. Saturday, July 11.

Police said the two got into a verbal dispute and the man made anti-Muslim statements before spitting on and punching the woman in the face. The suspect then fled down Eldridge Street, police said.

The woman suffered a fractured jaw and was taken to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in stable condition.

Police released a sketch of the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, between 5'7″ and 5'10" tall, wearing a dark colored short-sleeved t-shirt, dark blue jeans, dark sneakers and a dark colored hat with Nike symbol.
