Flavor Flav Fires 2nd Lawyer In Long Island Case; Plea Deal Off Table

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Entertainer Flavor Flav has fired his second lawyer in his Long Island traffic case and his plea deal is kaput.

The 56-year-old rapper and reality TV star said Tuesday in a Mineola courtroom that he doesn't deserve a felony charge.

There had been talk of a plea deal. But the judge and prosecutor said it has been revoked.

Flav's real name is William Drayton. He previously pleaded not guilty to driving with a suspended license, along with a speeding violation and two misdemeanors. The charges stemmed from his January 2014 arrest on the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Hempstead while driving to his mother's funeral. The rapper was allegedly driving 79 mph in a 55 mph zone in his black Hyundai.

He appeared to be on the verge of reaching a plea deal, but he was arrested in May in Nevada on allegations he was speeding and driving under the influence, jeopardizing the likelihood of a settlement.

The Roosevelt, Long Island, native currently lives in Las Vegas. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 with the rap group Public Enemy. He has starred in the reality series "The Surreal Life," "Strange Love" and "Flavor of Love."

His next court date is Aug. 10.
