Breaking Down The 5 Biggest Stories At Jets Training Camp

By Daniel Friedman

NFL training camps open up this week, and for all non-New England-based teams, the focus is on the upcoming season. They get their first real look at newly acquired players or draft picks and can see how they fit (or don't fit) into the existing group. They get some of the answers to questions they've been asking or have been asked for the past six months.

What questions do the Jets have to answer? Let's dive right in:

1. Will Geno Smith Be The Starting QB?

Given everything we've heard to this point, probably. But Ryan Fitzpatrick does have experience as an NFL starter and, like one of Smith's passes to an intended receiver, he can be overthrown; it's not exactly an impossible task.

2. Geno's New Weapons

If Smith is going to be the starter, he'll want to get acquainted with new wideout Brandon Marshall very quickly. Can a legitimate receiving corps give Smith a helping hand, and how will they mesh?

3. Is Leonard Williams As Good As We Think He Is?

He's without a doubt the most notable rookie at Jets training camp. But the first step any kid can take to prove himself worthy of the hype surrounding him is to make the team and earn a starting gig. With Sheldon Richardson out for the first four games of the regular season, Williams will have every opportunity to show what he's got.

4. Muhammad Wilkerson's Contract Dispute

Yeah, this should be a fun one. At least Wilkerson's reporting for training camp, something that other Jets in these types of situations did not do in recent years.

5. Running the Ball

The Jets have a crowded backfield right now, and it's hard to tell who will get the most touches. That role will probably go to Chris Ivory, but can anyone else emerge? Can Zac Stacey find a way to become a helpful player? This is something that'll be fun to watch as we go along.
