NYC Prosecutor To Receive Extra $2M From Mayor To Target Violence, Drug Crimes

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York City's Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan is expected to receive an extra $2 million from Mayor Bill de Blasio's office to target gun violence and drug crimes.

Brennan says the $2 million will be put to good use, WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported.

"We are very hard pressed in the city right now, both in terms of facing the heroin problems, which are overwhelming in some of our neighborhoods, as well as the problems of violence, violent drug organizations, that are just creating hell for many neighborhoods," Brennan said.

Prosecutor Brennan points to the recent seizure of heroin in the Bronx that was the biggest ever in the region and it made a dent as heroin dealers are now running dry, Cornell says.

The funds will also go toward hiring staff members and the purchase of new computer equipment.
