Residents Ask 'Why Us?' After Every Car On One Massapequa Block Keyed

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Residents of one Long Island block say they feel violated after someone came to their neighborhood and damaged their cars.

At least 17 homeowners on Cameo Drive in Massapequa have filed complaints after every single car on their block was keyed, police said.

"Any car that was on the street, any car that was in the driveway got damaged," said Dawn DeNicola, whose four cars are among the 31 that were damaged.

A man went up and down the block keying the sides of cars from front to back and carving X's and O's on some of the hoods, 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera reported.

"It makes no sense at all," said DeNicola, who believes the suspect used a boxcutter. "If there was a disgruntled person who was mad at someone do their house, why do an entire block?"

One homeowner captured the suspect on surveillance video, but no one in the neighborhood seems to recognize him, CBS2's Jennifer McLogan reported.

"Looks like a middle-aged man set on some type of mission. He destroyed a number of cars, over 30 cars. My husband's car was less than a month old," said Shelly Borgia.

Nassau Police Inspector Kenneth Lack conceded investigators don't know the motive yet.

Each car has hundreds of dollars in damages, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

"The worst part is someone was on my property, someone invaded my home," DeNicola said. "Why us?"

"It definitely feels like we're all violated," a woman whose three cars were damaged said. "I think it's terrible, I think it's creepy that someone would come down to this nice neighborhood and key our cars."

Police have been going door-to-door on the block to determine if any homeowner had a recent run-in with someone who might seek revenge over a personal matter, McLogan reported.

So far, no arrests have been made.
