NYPD Officers Rescue Dog From Hot Car In Forest Hills, Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A small dog is alive thanks to some NYPD officers who rescued the pup after police said it was left alone in a hot car in Queens.

Police said the dog was in the car for more than an hour with the windows almost completely closed before he was rescued by officers in Forest Hills on Sunday.

It was 86 degrees outside a the time.

Three officers got the window open and got the animal out. The 112th precinct tweeted a picture of the rescue.

When the 39-year-old owner returned, she was issued a summons for leaving an animal confined in a vehicle in extreme temperature, CBS2 reported.

She was allowed to keep her dog.

The 112th precinct later tweeted a reminder to all pet owners saying, "It's hot out! Be sure to take care of your loved ones and that includes your pets too!"
