Residents Wake To Find Tires Slashed In New Milford

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Nearly two dozen cars were vandalized in New Milford overnight.

As CBS2's Steve Langford reported, whoever is responsible had a maniacal work ethic, slashing tires on about a dozen vehicles on McKinley Avenue alone.

"It's definitely a shock for the resident to wake up and find this," said a New Milford police officer.

It was a quiet morning in the town, shattered by a serial slasher who targeted the tires of vehicle after vehicle on multiple streets.

"It's a lot of damage, a lot of damage," said one victim.

Flat tires were found on about 20 cars and SUVs; in some cases all four tires on vehicles were lacerated.

"My wife basically knocked on the bathroom door as I was getting ready this morning and said 'I don't think you're going to work today,'" said the victim.

Tow trucks were everywhere in a normally tranquil neighborhood, now seething with anger at the unknown suspect or suspects, Langford reported.

"Bunch of stupid, wild kids, what else?" said one woman.

"I have no idea why someone would do such a heinous thing," said another victim.

Even a trailer parked behind a local strip mall was targeted.

"Oh I hate it. It's horrible in this town, we don't need this," one man said.

A town recently ranked one of the safest in New Jersey, now suffering from a rude awakening.
