Search Continues For Missing Easton, Connecticut Couple
EASTON, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police in southwestern Connecticut are continuing to look for a married couple who went missing last week.
Fifty-five-year-old Jeanette Navin and 56-year-old Jeffrey Navin of Easton haven't been seen since Aug. 4 and were reported missing by relatives Friday.
Police say the couple's car was found Sunday in Westport in a commuter lot off the Merritt Parkway.
Jeffrey Navin is president of J & J Refuse in Weston. Jeanette Navin is a school library aide in Weston.
Easton Police Chief Tim Shaw says the couple often travels, but it's unusual they haven't been in contact with anyone for so long.
Police released a statement from the Navin family on Thursday, which said they were "shocked and saddened at the unexpected disappearance of Jeff and Jeanette Navin."
"There are no words to describe the impact this has had on their parents, siblings, and children," the statement said. "We wish only for their safe return and we ask for anyone who has seen either of them since Tuesday, August 4th, to contact the Easton police."
State court records show Jeffrey Navin was $2.2 million in debt as of December in connection with a mortgage on a Guilford home.
In the family's statement, they said the "financial issues recently reported by the media have not been proven to be a factor for our family members' disappearance."
"Information from the authorities indicates that there are available funds still in their bank accounts that are untouched," the statement said. "We, the entire Navin family, ask for privacy and respect during this overwhelming and troubling time."
