6 Shot, 1 Dead In Separate Incidents In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - It was a violent night in Brooklyn.

Six people were shot in separate incidents, 1010 WINS reported. One person was killed.

In the fatal shooting, a 21-year-old man was killed and two others wounded in Brownsville. The shooting at 807 Saratoga Avenue was detected Thursday night by the NYPD's ShotSpotter system, police said. The system uses microphones to detect gunfire.

There was another shooting in the Ocean Hill section of Brooklyn that left three wounded, 1010 WINS reported.

Community activist Tony Herbert says the shootings are likely to continue until the underlying causes are addressed.

"You know, the problem is that there's just too much easy access to these weapons, and a lack of concern or respect for life," Herbert told 1010 WINS.

Herbert urges anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

Anyone with information can call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-877-577-TIPS (8477). You can also submit a tip via their website or text your tip to CRIMES (274637) and then entering #TIP577.
