Connecticut Teacher Accused Of Taking 'Upskirt' Photos, Videos Of Teens

NORWALK, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A former teacher at a Connecticut high school is facing charges for allegedly taking "upskirt" photos and videos of female students.

Former Brien McMahon High School world languages teacher David Marchetti was charged last week with voyeurism and risk of injury to a minor.

According to court records, school administrators and police received complaints from students at the Norwalk school in May that Marchetti, 30, had been seen taking cellphone photos and videos from an "upward angle from the bottom of shorts and skirts," The Hour newspaper reported.

A student witness allegedly grabbed Marchetti's phone, ran out of the classroom and turned it over to the school Housemaster. The school then notified police.

Marchetti was placed on administrative leave May 5. He resigned June 30.

Court documents allege there were four victims.

Marchetti's lawyer, Mark Sherman, said it would be premature to jump to any conclusions.

"Until recently, David's career has been exemplary," Sherman told The Hour. "With voyeurism cases, distinguishing inappropriate behavior from criminal conduct can be challenging."

Marchetti is free on $25,000 bond and is due in court Friday.
