Peeping Tom Allegedly Spotted On Upper West Side Fire Escape

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An Upper West Side woman says she has spotted a peeping Tom looking at her from her fire escape multiple times.

As CBS2's Steve Langford reported, in a note to residents of her building, the woman said she saw the man just outside her back window, pants unzipped, on three occasions.

"We got the note here on Thursday, and it was just kind of shocking," said Omar Saleem, who lives in the building.

The woman warns tenants to keep their windows locked because, she writes, "I've caught some guy standing on my fire escape watching me, with his pants undone."

"It's really weird and kind of unsettling that someone's been on our fire escape, so we've locked it," Saleem said.

CBS2 buzzed the apartment of the person who wrote the warning note. A woman said she didn't want to talk about it.

In the note, the woman wrote that she called police, but the man outside her window was already gone. The NYPD said it has no formal complaint on file.

Langford spotted two gates leading to the fire escape, at the rear of the building, that were left open.

The disturbing note prompted nervous reactions from fellow Upper West Siders.

"I think it's terrifying," one woman said. "I would want to move."

"Unbelievable that these perverts tend to find places where they are noticed," another woman said.
