Police Claim Man, 87, Was Committing Lewd Act While Offering Candy To Kids On L.I.

LLOYD HARBOR, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An 87-year-old man was arrested in Lloyd Harbor, Long Island Monday, after he was allegedly seen offering candy to children while performing a lewd act in his car.

Galip Gulmez was sitting in his gray 2011 Subaru around 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, offering candy to children who were nearby at West Neck Beach in Lloyd Harbor, police said.

A woman who was with the children walked up to the car to intervene and saw Gulmez was not wearing pants and was masturbating, police said.

Gulmez, of Lloyd Harbor, was arrested around 1 p.m. Monday after an investigation, police said. He was charged with public lewdness and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

He will be held at the Second Precinct station and will be arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
