Police: Catamaran Operator Charged After Speeding, Evading Police On Hudson River

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Officials say the driver of a 30-foot catamaran led police on a high-speed chase from the Tappan Zee Bridge to Yonkers over the weekend.

On Sunday, authorities said a police boat attempted to stop Marcus Lomghitano for going more than 5 mph in the regulated zone near the bridge construction area.

But instead of stopping, police said Lomghitano sped off and topped 100 mph during the pursuit.

A second police boat joined the chase and the catamaran was intercepted as it arrived in Yonkers, according to The Journal News.

Lomghitano, of Highland Mills, was charged with reckless operation, failure to obey a police officer and operating an unregistered vessel. He was released pending a Sept. 25 court appearance in Greenburgh.
