2 Skydivers Injured In Midair Collision Over Long Island

CALVERTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two skydivers were injured Saturday when they collided midair over Long Island.

Riverhead Town Police Sgt. Stephen Palmer said Kevin Arcamona's knee hit Patricia Baronowski in the head during freefall in a jump at Skydive Long Island.

Baronowski's reserve parachute activated and she landed in a tree about 15 to 20 feet from the ground, police said.

Both skydivers were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. They said Arcamona suffered a leg injury and Baronowski suffered a head injury.

A call for comment by the Associated Press to Skydive Long Island wasn't immediately returned.

In July, a 25-year-old man died there during a tandem jump.
