Police: Man Held Up Banks In Midtown, Chelsea, Flatiron District
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Wednesday were searching for a robber who has held up banks in Midtown, Chelsea and the Flatiron District in recent days.
The first robbery happened around 12:38 p.m. this past Friday at the Chase Bank at 615 Eighth Ave., at 40th Street across from the Port Authority Bus Terminal, police said. The suspect walked into the bank and handed the teller a note, and made off with $2,850, police said.
Around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, the suspect struck again at the Chase Bank at 475 W. 23rd St., near Tenth Avenue, police said. The suspect passed the teller a note, but this time left empty-handed, police said.
The most recent robbery happened around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at the HSBC Bank at 145 Fifth Ave., at 21st Street. The suspect again passed the teller a note and left with $1,992, police said.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his 30s, standing about 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing about 195 pounds. Police have released a photo and surveillance video from the first incident.
