Mike Francesa Says Final Simulcast On Fox Sports To Come On Friday

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Mike Francesa is moving on from Fox Sports.

The WFAN host made it official Wednesday, announcing that his show would no longer be simulcast on the cable network, effective at the end of the week.

"As of this Friday, we will be parting ways with Fox," Francesa said.

On what network the show will appear on next remains to be seen, Francesa said.

"As far as us ... for the immediate future ... we will just do radio. We will begin negotiating with folks about carrying the show," Francesa said.

Fox Sports often preempted Francesa's show and moved it back and forth from the more powerful Fox Sports 1 to Fox Sports 2, an issue that irked Francesa and resulted in him saying as much on the air.

"The blame is mine," Francesa said Wednesday. "I tried to do something that was a little different. I knew I was trying to put a square peg in a round hole when I did this."

Francesa's highly rated show was broadcast on the Yes Network from 2002-14, before it landed on Fox Sports in March of last year.

As of Tuesday, Colin Cowherd's show began appearing on Fox Sports 1, while Francesa was found primarily on Fox Sports 2, a channel a lot of listeners in the metropolitan area don't subscribe to.

"I had some trepidation, but I also saw the promise in it and it never really worked out," Francesa said of the deal with Fox. "The judgment was mine. I made the decision to go, not CBS.

"Fox had good intentions. They paid us very well. It just wasn't a good fit for them. It wasn't a good fit for us. ... Now we'll each go our separate ways. I take all the blame in every way. ... We will end the relationship very amicably come Friday and as we said, Fox will go its way and we will go our way," Francesa added.
