Reports: Giants, Eli Manning Finalizing $84 Million Contract Extension
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- According to multiple reports, the Giants and starting quarterback Eli Manning are finalizing a four-year contract extension.
The new deal is expected to be for $84 million, according to reports, including $65 million guaranteed.
The Giants have not yet made an announcement, though it could become official on Friday.
"It's not done yet," Manning told ESPN on Thursday afternoon. "Hopefully it gets done very soon, and I can worry about football and not have to deal with this."
Manning has been with the Giants, his only team, since 2004. The three-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl MVP had one of the best seasons of his career in 2014. Under first-year offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, Manning completed 63.1 percent of his passes for 4,410 yards and threw 30 touchdown passes to 14 interceptions.
"I'm not a big fan of negotiations going on during the season," Manning told WFAN co-hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton earlier this week. "I'm hoping if this thing is going to get done, it's going to get done very quickly. I would think both sides would want to do it that way and not have these talks continue on."
The former first overall pick is entering the final year of his contract. He will earn $17.5 million in 2015.
The Giants haven't made the playoffs since 2011, when they beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.
Big Blue will kick off its season against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff will be at 8:30 p.m.
