Long Island Men Accused Of Heroin Trafficking In Rhode Island

WARWICK, R.I. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two Long Island men were busted in Rhode Island this week with heroin valued at $800,000, police said.

Rhode Island state police Col. Steven O'Donnell said Friday a trooper stopped a car Wednesday in Warwick after noticing the vehicle's canceled registration. The trooper also smelled marijuana, the Providence Journal reported.

Eight 500-gram bags of heroin were disguised as packages of coffee beans hidden in a box of beverage bottles.

Kalen Antoine, 23, of Hempstead, and Sergio Torres, 20, of West Babylon, were arraigned in District Court, Warwick, on Wednesday. Both were charged with possession of heroin with intent to deliver.

Antoine also was charged with operating on a suspended license and driving while in possession of a controlled substance.
