Police: Woman Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver On City Island Bridge

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The search is on for a driver who police say struck and killed a bicyclist, then took off.

The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what happened.

As CBS2's Ilana Gold reported on Saturday, the 27-year-old victim was on her bike riding west over the City Island Bridge in the Bronx when the driver of a white Hyundai sedan hit her and left seconds later.

Officers said when they arrived on the scene, the woman was unconscious and unresponsive with severe head trauma. The bike was found mangled nearby.

The victim, who police have not identified, was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center.
