Skeletal Remains, Personal Items Found In Southern New Jersey Woods

RICHLAND, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- New Jersey State Police late Thursday were trying to identify a set of skeletal remains that were discovered in a wooded area in Atlantic County.

Troopers from the State Police Buena Vista Station in southern New Jersey, and detectives from the Major Crime Unit, were called to a wooded area near Main Avenue and U.S. 40 in Richland, New Jersey.

They found the remains, along with several items personal items, police said.

Among the items found were a black baseball cap with "Puerto Rico" written on the front, a red windbreaker coat with "N.Y.C. Lifeguard Department of Parks" written on the back, and a green backpack containing a black LG cellphone and prescription eyeglasses.

State police asked anyone with information to call the Buena Vista Station at (609) 561-1800, ext. 3355.
