Bike to Breathe Days 7 & 8 - Wow! That Was Fast

It's really hard to believe that we'll be done with the ride in just hours. The last two days have flown, so much so, that I skipped a posting, so today, it's your lucky day – you get two for the price of one.

I have to take pause and realize, we trained and prepared months for this and in a mere 12 hours, we'll be going back to our day to day lives and this will be a memory. BUT, or hope is that we've made a difference. While in some ways, especially when we're peddling uphill against the wind, we feel like this is about us, but it's much bigger than us. It's about the CF community, whether your pre or post-transplant, and bringing determination in all that you do. CF is not something we "are", it just something that's a part of us.

I'm excited to for tomorrow. I get to finish these 500 miles surrounded by some of the greatest people I know at NY Presbyterian that have become family to me – wait, that ARE family to me. And, having Boomer & Carton broadcasting from there is pretty cool, I must say.

Well, before I go and finish up the last 7 miles, here's a snapshot of the last two days through Norwalk, CT crossing into the border of New York. Thanks for reading and see you in New York!

  • About 85 Miles in the books – Day 7 shorter than day 8
  • Met some folks along the way in New Haven
  • Had to stop by the "Before I die…" board – this was really cool – check out the really cool picture and you'll get the idea…what would you have written?
  • Ran into some low sugar levels while riding Wednesday and stopped for Dex – this is similar in texture to a Tums and helps with my diabetes
  • One of my favorite stops was meeting with the men and women who serve the community – we stopped at Local 830 Fire Station in Norwalk, CT
Day 8 - hanging with Local 830 Fire Station in Norwalk, CT
Hanging with Local 830 Fire Station in Norwalk, CT
  • As we moved closer to NYC, the ride felt "more urban" than it had when we started out over a week ago
  • Our first start in New York was in New Rochelle at Iona Prep, where I'm a pole vaulting coach and the local news – channel 12 was there to interview me. This was a great part of my day – to spread the word about what we're doing and to raise money

Overall, Em and I don't take for granted that we have had a ride that has not been weather and that our health and bodies stayed strong for the ride! Most importantly we're grateful for the friends we've met along the way and all of the support we've had from all over the country- none of it goes unnoticed!
