"As soon as they won it, I came right down here to get it," said fan Nelson Martinez. "It's just amazing. I still can't believe it."

"I was always watching the game hoping for them to win, you know with my Mets hat and everything as luck," said young fan Robert Matos. "And so now I'm really happy. We both came running over here."
The team clinched the playoffs Saturday night, beating the Cincinnati Reds on the road. The players celebrated by spraying champagne in the clubhouse after the game.
Team captain David Wright said it's an amazing feeling.

"What we were able to accomplish on the field speaks for itself, but what we've done in this clubhouse to come together, play as one, be able to represent New York City, be able to represent the New York Met fans means the world to us," he said.

The Mets haven't made it to the postseason since 2006.
Fan Natalie Silverman was just a teenager then.

"I used to go to Mets games a lot in high school with my friends, and it's really cool to see them succeed," she told 1010 WINS' Rebecca Granet.

Another fan joked that the last time this happened he wasn't even conceived yet.

"I've been watching every night," he said. "It's really fun."

But the team's work is far from over. The Mets still have a week and a half left in the regular season, and they're trying to win homefield advantage. They are likely to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in their National League Division Series.

"I'm just very excited about the Mets going all the way this year -- World Series," one woman said. "I can't wait to pick up my tickets on Monday. Let's go Mets."
