Rock Thrown From Long Island Bridge Shatters Car's Rear Windshield

ROSLYN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Long Island man escaped injury after someone tossed rocks from a railroad bridge, shattering the rear window of his car.

Christopher Longhito, of Selden, was driving home from work Monday evening when he said someone threw two rocks from the railroad overpass on Roslyn Road in Roslyn.

"One hit my license plate. It hit my front windshield, scratched up my hood a little bit," Longhito told 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera.

The other rock hit and shattered the rear windshield of his new Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, where his 3-year-old son normally sits.

"His car seat is usually right where that rock hit," Longhito said, adding that luckily he was the only one in the car at the time and was not injured. "If my 3-year-old was in the car in his seat where he normally sits, he definitely at the very least would have been covered in sharp glass."

Longhito said he immediately pulled over and called 911, but the rock thrower was gone.

"It was very scary, very loud; it almost sounded like someone crashed into the back of me," he told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

While he may have been alone int he car, there were other witnesses, CBS2's Jennifer McLogan reported.

"A woman pulled over, she had seen the whole thing...kinda calmed me down," Longhito said.

No arrests have been made.

Nassau County police confirm several unsolved cases of small rocks or bricks thrown on cars parked in lots, but this is the first time here that a moving vehicle has been targeted, McLogan reported.
