WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A man was arrested and charged Friday after allegedly attacking an officer and fleeing from police in West Islip, Long Island.
Alexander Thomas, 25, was initially arrested in North Amityville around 7 p.m. Thursday, on allegations of criminal possession of a loaded weapon and stolen property, false personation, harassment, and resisting arrest, police said.
Police used a Taser on Thomas during the arrest, and he was subsequently taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.
While at the hospital around noon Friday, Thomas allegedly assaulted a police officer and bolted, making a run through the adjoining neighborhood, police said.
He was captured by a K9 officer and his dog about an hour later, police said.
The suspect was taken back to the hospital for minor injuries and released, police said. The officer who was injured was also treated at the hospital.
Thomas, of Huntington, now faces additional charges of escape and assault, police said. He was to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
