New York Comic Con Kicks Off At Javits Center

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Comic Con is back at the Jacob Javits Center.

For the past decade, fans have been able to get up close and personal with their favorite superheroes.

"Here's a chance to be your own superhero for two, three or four days," Matt Wasowski, festival director for New York Super Week told CBS2's Jill Nicolini. "You get to save the world here in New York."

Over the next four days fans can explore the convention's many exhibits and panels focusing on popular television shows, comic books, video games and movies.

Attendees should also keep their eyes out for celebrities: Seth Meyers, David Duchovny, Bryan Cranston and Sarah Michelle Gellar, to name a few.

Comic book fans can check out a selection of books and even meet some of their favorite illustrators at Artist Alley. There's also a trading cards section, and a place to play some of the newest video games.

"Artist Ally's great because it's a place for artists to come out and meet the fans," Randy Martinez, Star Wars artist and illustrator, said. "It's also a great market for us to sell our original artwork and sketches."

Star Wars is a popular theme this year in anticipation for the upcoming movie release, and a special showing of the "Walking Dead" season premiere at Madison Square Garden is expected to draw 17,000, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.

"Especially for people like me who have such an eclectic taste in what they like to watch on TV or what they like to read," one Comic Con fan from New Jersey told Diamond. "This is a perfect for anybody like me who wants to experience everything."

Tickets for Comic Con are sold out, but there are still tickets available for Super Week events.
