Hoboken Officially Launches New Bike Share Program

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Residents in Hoboken can grab a bike and roll now that the Hudson Bike Share program has officially launched.

The program will run much like the Citi Bike program in New York City and Jersey City, WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported.

"Yea, so you can do a yearly, so you pay $95. But if you sign up through Sunday, you actually pay $75 which is nice," said program operator and Bike and Roll CEO Chris Wogas said.

Wogas said residents can also sign up for a weekly plan or a $2 single ride for 30 minutes.

"It's quick, it's easy and it's cheap," he said.

"If you live in the northern part of Hoboken, you barely go to southwest Hoboken," said Mayor Dawn Zimmer.

Car parking is such a notorious pain in the city, Zimmer said bike sharing will help connect the city, like residents trying to get from the train station on the southeast side to the new condos, movie theater and bars under the 14th Street Viaduct.

"I think it's faster and easier to just get on a bike than it is to drive," and park, Zimmer said.
