Harlem Street Pays Tribute To Influential Producer, Director, Choreographer Leonard Harper

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- An old street has a new name in Harlem.

As CBS2 reported, 132nd Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr will be known as Leonard Harper Way.

The new name pays tribute to Harper who was an influential African producer, director and choreographer during the Harlem Renaissance.

Harper's grandson Grant, who wrote a book about his grandfather, helped unveil the new street sign.

Also taking place on Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard on Saturday, was a church sponsored clothing drive.

First Corinthian Baptist Church gave families in need a chance to shop in style.

Guests were given tickets, and a personal shopper to help them find items they needed.

Members of the church donated new or gently used clothing.

Nearly 800 people took advantage of the unique shopping spree. The clothing was new or gently used.
