Port Jefferson Ban On Hookah Lounges, Tattoo Parlors, Strip Clubs Draws Mixed Reviews

PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Port Jefferson is the latest Long Island community to ban hookah lounges, tattoo parlors and strip clubs from its downtown and other commercial districts.

Many residents seem fine with that, WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported.

"They just lead to (problems)," said Fred Jacobs. " ... That's the bottom line."

Village officials say the ban is largely over concerns about illegal activity that such businesses might bring, something resident Tom shakes his head over.

"They didn't even want a McDonald's down here," he said. "They're ridiculous, I think.

"They shouldn't be banning all these things. Going a little far, yeah."

The new law takes effect next month.
