Westchester Woman Traces Her Mets Fandom All The Way Back To The Brooklyn Dodgers

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The Mets have lots of fans, and they're getting new ones daily.

It's doubtful that any of those fans have more experience than 100-year-old Adeline Russo. The Westchester County woman said she has been a Mets fan since before they were even a team.

Russo told CBS2's Lou Young that the Mets are spiritual heirs to the Brooklyn Dodgers, her first baseball love. To her they are the same team and her loyalties have never wandered as far north as the Bronx.

"I'm surrounded by the Yankees. So nobody can chase me. I'm a Mets fan till the day god takes me," She said.

And don't even mention the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"The what?...But they're not the Brooklyn team," she said. "So, I don't want anything to do with them. Am I making myself clear?"

Her favorite Mets include Ron Darling, Keith Hernandez, and Daniel Murphy, as long as he stays put.

"The way Murphy's playing, I think they're going to settle. If he goes to another team I want no part of him," she said.

Russo's son told CBS2 that when his mother puts on her Mets hat and jacket, and sits down to watch, the team gets a constant stream of advice. Her mood will darken with the team's fortunes.

"When they're losing she's got the puss on and you know it because you can hear her in her room," Gennaro Russo said.

Russo has been to Ebbets Field and Shea Stadium many times, but after all these years she has never set foot inside Citi Field.

That could change if someone manages to secure World Series tickets for her.
