Commuter Alert: Bridge Construction In Westbury Causes Headaches For Long Island Rail Road Riders

WESTBURY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Riders can expect delays this weekend on the Long Island Rail Road's Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches.

The installation of a new bridge in Westbury is causing service disruptions on all LIRR lines through the weekend. For more on the LIRR's special timetables for this weekend, click here.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, Shakeem Early said she felt dizzy after going on bus after bus trying to get to work Saturday morning.

"It's been a rough morning, but the bills aren't going to pay themselves. So I have to go to work. So it is what it is," she said.

Due to the work on the Ellison Avenue Bridge, buses are replacing trains between Hicksville and Mineola.

The LIRR said riders should expect up to hour-long delays and to even avoid taking the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson lines if possible.

One rider said she definitely felt the delays.

"Very tired, I had to get up like an hour early to make it here, and the transferring and everything is too much," she said.

Normal service will resume on both branches just before the Monday morning commute.
