NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Ghosts and goblins will roam the halls of Gracie Mansion Friday night as the city’s first family celebrates Halloween.
The de Blasios will once again open the gates of their home and host a spooky Halloween party.
Last year, Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, dressed as a god and goddess as they turned the mansion into a haunted house for the evening.
But the city’s Halloween fun doesn’t stop there. The famed Village Halloween Parade will take place Saturday night.
The annual event draws thousands of costumed revelers as stiltwalkers, puppets, dancers, artists and more than 50 bands march along Sixth Avenue.
The parade’s artistic director, Jeanne Fleming, said the weather is expected to be perfect for a spooky night out in the city.
This year’s theme for the parade is “Shine A Light.”
“We chose that theme because it feels like this is a dark time, when things have gotten kind of tense all over the world and kind of separating people from each other,” Fleming told 1010 WINS.
Fleming said she wasn’t sure she would have a grand marshal this year, until the perfect person presented himself: “The Most Interesting Man In The World,” of Dos Exxis commercial fame.
The parade, which steps off at 7 p.m., will also feature dancers and bands from Mexico.
For those looking to watch the revelry, Fleming suggested you get to the parade route by 6:30 p.m.
