That Was Fast: Expansion NYCFC Fires Head Coach Kreis, Assistants

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Jason Kreis' tenure as coach of Major League Soccer's New York City FC has ended after the team's first season.

The team said late Monday it "parted company" with Kreis, words often used in English soccer when coaches have been fired.

Kreis coached Real Salt Lake to the 2009 MLS Cup title and left after losing the 2013 championship game to join NYCFC, which started play this year. The team, owned by the parent company of England's Manchester City, went 10-17-7 for 37 points — in a three-way tie for the second-fewest points above only Chicago.

"Prior to the start of the season, it was agreed with the coaching team that securing of a playoff place was an appropriate target for this year," NYCFC said in a statement. "A win rate of less than one in three games and a points tally which was the second-lowest in the league is clearly not in line with the targets that were agreed. ... There was not enough evidence of the dynamics required to improve the performance of the team for the next season and beyond."

NYCFC said assistants Miles Joseph and C.J. Brown also are leaving.
