Giants Sign Tight End Jerome Cunningham Off Practice Squad

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Giants have signed tight end Jerome Cunningham off the practice squad.

The team announced the move on Thursday, making a roster spot available by placing rookie linebacker Owa Odighizuwa on injured reserve-designated for return.

The Giants need an extra tight end because starter Larry Donnell has a neck injury. Will Tye is the only healthy tight end on the 53-man roster.

Cunningham started the season on the 53-man roster. He was waived on Oct. 18 and signed three days later to the practice squad, where he spent most of the 2014 season.

Cornerback Dax Swanson, who entered the NFL as a free agent with the Indianapolis Colts in 2013, was signed to the practice squad. He has not played in an NFL game.

The Giants will take on the Buccaneers in Tampa on Sunday.
